NHL FREE AGENCY SPLASH

The Washington Capitals hockey club has started off their free agency season with a BANG. First off by signing Stanley Cup winning goaltender Darcy Kuemper to a 5 year $26.25 million contract. Since 2017-18 Kuemper leads the NHL in save percentage with a .921 and is number 2 in Goals Against Average with a 2.43. Darcy joins an aging Caps team chasing another stanley cup for the Great 8 Alex Ovechkin.

That was not the only move as GMBM continued to reshape the team by trading a 2024 2nd round pick to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for forward Connor Brown. Brown has 1 year left on his contract at $3.6 million and will likely slot in the top 6 forwards until players return from injury. Connor had 39 points and 10 goals in 64 games this past season.

Continuing the list of deals on the day. GMBM resigned forward Marcus Johansson to a 1 year deal at $1.1 million. Dman Erik Gustafsson to a 1 year $800,000 deal. maybe the sneakiest signing with the most potential upside comes in the signing of backup goaltender Charlie Lindgren to a 3 year $3.3 million contract (1.1 AAV). This past season Lindgren posted a .925 save percentage in the AHL with Springfield, however in the 5 games he appeared in this year with the blues the 28 year old netminder went 5-0 with a 1.22 GAA along with a ridiculous .958 save percentage! only time will tell how these deals work out for the boys in red but the message is loud and clear, the Capitals are going for it these next several years while the window remains open.
