SJHL CanaltaSIM Melfort Mustangs vs Flin Flon Bombers Game 2 Highlights/Recap

Game 2 of this semi final series got underway just after 5pm Saskatchewan time, 7pm EST, Melfort came out on top in game 1 by a score of 5-3 surprising many fans in the stream as the Bombers couldn't get their big guns to find the back of the net, Flin Flon has 5 players rated 90 or higher, which is unheard of for a league team in NHL 20.
The Mustangs would come out strong to start game 2 controlling possession and quickly getting it back when the Bombers got a chance to enter the zone, just under 3 minutes into the game Mustangs forward Kyle Bosch would enter the zone through the middle of the ice to get the play started, leading to a solid opportunity that would bounce out to the corner, Bosch would retrieve the puck and feed Odowichuk in the slot who fed the puck straight back to Bosch in front to fire it low on net at the pads of Delorme, the Bombers goaltender kicked the puck out right back onto Bosch's stick where he would not miss on his rebound to give the Mustangs an early 1 goal lead. https://clips.twitch.tv/WildZealousSquidOMGScoots?tt_medium=clips_api&tt_content=url
As the opening frame continues Flin Flon would get a 5 on 3 for 1:26 but somehow the number one rated offence in the SJHL would fail to get more than 2 scoring opportunities and Melfort made them pay almost immediately on a slapshot from the point that led to a shot in front by Albertson that bounced over Delorme's head and into the net to give the Mustangs a 2 goal lead.

Mustangs Dman Alex Rondeau just moments later comes flying down the ice end to end to fire the puck once again low on the far pad side causing a big rebound in front for Kenzie Arnold to bury the puck for a 3 goal lead to put the Bombers on the edge of their heels. Melfort would just keep piling it on as they would get a chance with a 5 on 3 of their own in the dying minutes of the opening frame, Rondeau would pick up the assist on the Zach Anderson goal as it went post and in from the slot, leaving no chance for the Flin Flon netminder to make the save, and increasing the lead to 4 to end the 1st period. https://clips.twitch.tv/PoisedPreciousWormDogFace?tt_medium=clips_api&tt_content=url

Through 20 minutes Melfort leads 4-0, time on attack was 2:19 to 1:58 in favour of the Mustangs, faceoffs were all even at 12 a piece, and shots were 19-14 for Melfort. Flin Flon has also made a goalie change for the 2nd period replacing Jacob Delorme will be Cal Schell, 18 year old from Burlington, Ontario, Cal is substantially taller at 6'3.
Only minutes into the 2nd period, Melfort would push hard once again to extend their lead to 5, Cal Schell had other plans with this huge cross crease save on Austin Nault to keep any glimmer of hope for Bomber fans here in game 2. https://clips.twitch.tv/PoisedIncredulousEmuUnSane?tt_medium=clips_api&tt_content=url . The 2nd period would be fairly quiet as neither team could solve one another, keeping the game at 4-0 up until Austin Nault turns and fires it past Schell with 2 minutes remaining in the 2nd frame to bring the score to 5-0 for the Mustangs. https://clips.twitch.tv/BloodyAmusedPistachioResidentSleeper?tt_medium=clips_api&tt_content=url .
The mustangs would add one more goal in the 2nd period thanks to another turn and shoot goal, this time scored by forward Adam Nobes. Through 40 minutes the Score was 6-0 for Melfort, shots on goal were fairly even but slight advantage for Melfort at 31-28, time on attack was 5:05 for the Mustangs and 4:32 for the Bombers.
Halfway a quiet 3rd period the Mustangs would make it a shocking 7-0 lead on the Flin Flon Bombers who came into the series expected to carry the offence, however the big line for the Bombers have yet to score a goal in this series, if Flin Flon is to have any chance in this series they will desperately need to get their game clicking in the Ozone, curious to see if the Bombers make any line changes for game 3 and also to see if they will give the start to Schell or go back to Delorme. Kenzie Arnold was the goalscorer on another turn and shoot goal, the 3rd goal of its kind to sneak by Schell. Finally with 7 minutes remaining in the game, the Bombers able to get one past Parkinson who was lights out all night for Melfort, Easton Haygarth was able to get the puck just over the glove to end the shutout bid for the Mustangs netminder.
Flin Flon and Melfort would keep this game very quiet for the remaining 7 minutes, allowing the clock to run down fairly quick as Melfort takes game 2 by a score of 7-1 and also takes a 2-0 series lead in this Best of 7 Semi Final as the series will shift back to the Mustangs home arena for games 3 and 4. Your final shot tally was 43-40 in favour of Melfort, so its clear Flin Flon has been able to get the puck through to the net, they just have not been able to solve Shawn Parkinson in goal and almost have no choice now but to find a solution in game 3 to find the key to their offence that was so lethal all season long. The final time on attack was 8:30 for the Mustangs and 6:31 for the Bombers, the final faceoff tally was 29-20 in favour of Flin Flon.
Your 3 Stars of the evening are:
3. Alex Rondeau Defence-Melfort- 3 assists, 2 Hits
2. Kenzie Arnold Forward-Melfort- 2 goals, 1 assist
1. Shawn Parkinson Goalie-Melfort- 1.00 Goals Against AVG, 39 Saves on 40 shots, .975 Save%
What I would like to see from the Bombers tomorrow night in game 3 is a goaltending change, simply because at this point, Delorme has struggled mightily through the first 4 periods of the series, give Schell the start and see how it goes, one other move I would like to see is moving Bannister up to the top line as he seems to be one of their few point producers through 2 games, and moving one of their big dogs down to try and create more depth to see if they can produce more frequently up against a different matchup throughout the game.
My prediction for Game 3 is a 4-3 regulation win for Flin Flon with their big guys finally getting onto the scoreboard to pull the series back to within 1 game.
